Sport Methodology LAB joins Walking Lions Getxo for their final training session ahead of the international tournament hosted by the club in Getxo
This June, we had the opportunity to attend one of Walking Lions Getxo’s training sessions, held in preparation for the international walking football tournament that took place a few days later at the municipal sports facilities in Fadura.
The session brought together the two groups involved in the project: the over-50s team and the over-60s team. This gave us the opportunity to spend a training session alongside them and observe first-hand their coaching methodology, team spirit and the outstanding commitment shown by all the participants.
Throughout the session, we were accompanied by Alfonso Arrola, with whom we have been collaborating through Sport Methodology LAB. In addition to playing a key role in the sporting development of the project, he also serves as the organisational lead of Walking Lions Getxo.
The session was also attended by Ibon Oleagagoitia, a coach with the Athletic Club Foundation. His involvement in sessions of this kind represents a significant endorsement of the work being carried out and reflects the growing interest that walking football continues to generate within the sporting community.
A few days later, the Fadura Municipal Football Ground hosted an international tournament that brought together teams from several countries and different regions of Spain. Alongside Walking Lions Getxo, the tournament featured a French team, All Star-ST Porchaire; two English teams, Thames WIF and Amesbury WF; an Italian team, Real Maranello; a Swedish team, Walking Vikings Sweden; a team from Seville, WF Hispalis; and another from Lanzarote, Lanzarote WF.
The event provided an excellent opportunity to share experiences, promote sporting exchange and continue driving the growth of walking football.
